DAILY PRAYER
September 2

Dear Lord, we have prayed that You would raise up righteous leaders for our country -- men of integrity and moral example who will lead this nation to fulfill Your vision and our dreams. Give us the wisdom to recognize them, for we have often been deceived. ... Remind us that integrity and morality are not just words to be bandied about, but words to be reflected in one's everyday conduct. These are essential in building character. ... Let us demand these qualities for these leaders and for ourselves, for no nation, no society, and no family can long survive without standards that require honesty and responsibility in all of our actions, dealings, and relationships. Only then will we and our leaders set honorable examples for our youth to follow. Only then can we rightfully sing: "GOD BLESS AMERICA." ... Help us, Lord, to become the nation that You want us to be. Let us reclaim Your vision for our country; with Your help we can!

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

JOKE OF THE DAY
A couple is in bed sleeping when there's a rat-a-tat-tat on the door.
The husband rolls over and looks at the clock, and it's half past 3 in the morning.” I’m not getting out of bed at this time," he thinks, and rolls over. Then, a louder knock follows. So he drags himself out of bed, goes downstairs, opens the door, and there's a man standing there. It didn't take the homeowner long to realize the man was drunk.
"Hi there," slurs the stranger, "Can you give me a push?" "No, get lost. It's half past three and I was in bed," says the man as he slams the door. He goes back up to bed and tell his wife what happened and she says, "That wasn't very nice of you. Remember that night we broke down in the pouring rain on the way to pick the kids up from the baby-sitter and you had to knock on that man's house to get us started again? What would have happened if he'd told us to get lost?"
"But the guy was drunk," says the husband.
"It doesn't matter," says the wife.” He needs our help and it would be the Christian thing to help him." So the husband gets out of bed again, gets dressed, and goes downstairs.
He opens the door, and not being able to see the stranger anywhere,
He shouts, "Hey, do you still want a push?"
And he hears a voice cry out, "Yeah, please."
So, still being unable to see the stranger he shouts, "Where are you?" The drunk replies, "Over here, on the swing."

CHARITY is applying business lessons from the Master

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.  ~ 1 Samuel 16:7

Jesus is an excellent model for the business leader, and it is possible to apply His approach to the workweek.  In three years, He demonstrated a radical form of servant leadership that created spectacular results with otherwise ordinary people, thereby transforming the course of human history.  Jesus launched His vision with twelve followers.  Now, 1.9 billion people worldwide consider Him their leader.

As a leader, Jesus served.  He told His disciples, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all (Mark 10:43-44).”  Therefore, serve others by thinking carefully about customers and employees when you’re making a decision.  Some actions that might seem to improve the bottom line might harm people and morale along the way.  Beware.  Listen to employees and customers and follow-up on their feedback.  Above all, be accountable for your actions.~ A. Reynolds Alexander, excerpted

Jesus’ message is not just for the mind, it is directed at the heart.  Is it possible to climb the corporate ladder without compromising the high ideals of Knighthood?

The secret of my success?  It is simple.  It is found in the Bible, “In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” ~ George Washington Carver
